The case for one good coat

A coat is the only garment most people wear every day of a season, over everything else they own. It is also the garment most often bought in a hurry, off a rack, in a size that is a compromise between the shoulder and the chest.

Made to measure changes the order of operations. The pattern is drafted to a body first, and the cloth is chosen second. Nothing about the finished coat is a negotiation with a size chart.

The result is unglamorous in the best way: the collar sits flat against the neck, the sleeve finishes at the wrist bone, and the coat closes without pulling. That is the whole argument.
